Susannah Tresilian is a theatre director and radio producer. Her theatre work focuses predominantly on the promotion of gender balance within the field of international theatre. Having worked as Artistic Director of Envision Theatre (2002-9) in UK and Italy, she now works freelance, specialising in international collaborations. Sponsored in 2008 by the Arts Council England and the European Theatre Convention, she spent a formative year as Assistant Director at the Nottingham Playhouse (UK), the Comédie de Saint-Etienne (France), and the Zagrebacko Kazaliste Mladih (Croatia). She has directed at theatres including Det Norske Teatret (Norway), Nottingham Playhouse (UK), THOC (National Theatre of Cyprus). She curated and directed Playhouse etc. for the Nottingham Playhouse at the NEAT 11 Festival in May 2011, a role she will take up again for NEAT 14. Current projects include working on a new play with Sara Pascoe called ‘The Endings’ for 2014; leading The Ariadne Project working with female theatremakers in war zones; and will direct ‘Posh’ by Laura Wade at the Nottingham Playhouse in 2015.
Radio work includes: BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and arts programmes on BBC Radio 3 and the BBC World Service. She also speaks four languages and frequently gives workshops around Europe on acting, directing and European Theatre. She now lives in London and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
